Honouring Women’s Day
The massive farmers protests in India are going to have a huge impact on India’s hundreds of millions of rural women. Female farmers supply 70% of the country food as farm work is becoming increasingly feminized in recent years. Many of these small farmers are women from marginalized communities and the new laws put them at risk of corporate exploitation or losing their livelihood. These women are at the frontlines of the protests - they are the backbone of Indian agriculture and the beating heart of the village. ❤️
Filmed on assignment in Maharashtra for the Swades Foundation - an NGO educating and empowering women in rural areas.
